Big Group Hug is delighted to receive another generous donation of nappies from Aiwibi, helping babies and young children experiencing hardship stay healthy, comfortable and cared for.
Aiwibi recently donated 50 packs of nappies across sizes 5, 6 and 7. That’s 2,120 nappies in total! These larger sizes are among the nappies we regularly run out of, making this donation particularly valuable.
For a family already struggling with rising living costs, nappies are a significant and unavoidable household expense. Parents can’t simply reduce how many their child needs. When money is tight, buying nappies can mean sacrificing another essential, such as healthy food, or trying to make nappies last longer by changing them less frequently, placing children at greater risk of severe nappy rash and infection.
Small essentials make a big difference
One in six children in Victoria lives in poverty. Families are making heartbreaking choices every day: nappies or healthy food, formula or a doctor’s appointment, warm clothes or heating. The cost-of-living crisis has pushed many families into even deeper hardship.
Big Group Hug works through health and welfare professionals to provide families with the practical essentials their children need. Nappies are included in carefully prepared aid packages alongside items such as clothing, bedding, toiletries, formula, toys and other age-appropriate necessities.
In the 2024–25 financial year alone, Big Group Hug distributed more than 96,000 nappies to families experiencing hardship.
A caseworker who has distributed Big Group Hug aid packages shared the immediate difference this support can make:
“These packages make such a difference to parents. The financial support they provide is crucial. I have seen the relief on parents’ faces when they receive something as essential as a packet of nappies or good-quality clothing.”
That sense of relief is also visible to the volunteers who sort and pack essential items for families.
“Nappies are one of the first things families need and one of the items we can never have too many of. When our shelves are running low, we know there are parents in the community worrying about how they will afford the next packet. A donation like this means we can respond immediately and give families one less thing to worry about.”
Continuing a friendship built on care
